Odjegba Divine wins UBA Nat’ essay competition 2018 edition

Odjegba Divine wins – the UBA 2018 edition of the national essay competition has produced 14 year old Odjegba Divine as its overall winner.

To enter the final contest were a boy and two girls, which Odjegba a student of international high school Delta state became outstanding.

As Odjegba Divine wins, she received a brand new laptop alongside N2,000,000 which will have her study in any African university of her choice.

The grand finale held on Monday 26th Nov, 2018 at the UBA house Marina Lagos.

To enter the competition were students drawn from various secondary schools across the country to participate.

Being excited, Odjegba Divine who was accompanied by her mother said “This is something I prayed about and worked hard to achieve. I was surprise to here my name announced as the winner and my mother and I cried for joy. I am indeed very grateful to UBA and the foundation for this huge opportunity and making me believe in myself. This grant will go along way to support my bid for quality education”.

The second price however goes to  15 year old Ozemoka Halimat Emesom, of university preparatory secondary school Edo state. She received N1,500,000 educational grant and a brand new laptop.

In the same capacity, third price went to 16 year old Adinkpo Ini-Iso Christopher, of the Nigerian Christian institute  Akwa Ibom state, he received N1,000,000 and a brand new laptop likewise to his effort.

UBA MD/CEO Bola Atta, while congratulating the winners said “Every student who sent in an entry is a winner , to be confident in your writing skills and ambitious enough to enter a competition to further enhance your educational path, it’s laudable.
For those that did not win, I would say do not be discouraged, take it as a challenge to perfect your writing skills and enter for the competition again in 2019”.

Atta said UBA foundation being CSR arm of UBA PLC, makes it a point of duty to give back to communities where UBA operates.

Education in any capacity. Atta noted, remains the foundation’s focus area as it’s the bed rock of any nation.

UBA Director/Chief Executive Officer Mr Kennedy Uzoka said UBA as a bank is happy that it’s touching lives and making solid impact through this competition and the grant it gives out annually to those who emerge winners.

UBA had since the inception of this foundation in 2011 in Nigeria produced over 100 winners who are studying different courses in Nigerian universities and around Africa at large.

The judges led by Professor of English and Director of pre degree studies, University of Uyo, Mrs. Ini Uko stated that they were impressed with the participants who showed great promise as to what to expect from future Nigeria as Odjegba Divine wins.
