How to get your first foreign client as a freelance writer
July 5, 2021
I feel like sharing a little but yet untapped secret with you that has helped me land foreign clients without using content mills like Fiverr, Up-work, etc.
If you know me closely, you’ll understand my obsession with content mill platforms, they are just a NO and NO for me.
Why do I hate these platforms? The answer is an open secret:
1) You will never get to deal with your worth, these clients would want you to sacrifice a lot for peanut.
Given this, they are mostly middlemen and brokers to who these writing gigs are being outsourced by the Parent clients.
Now you see the idea playing behind these poor offers.
How does it feel to be priced so low to as little as $30 or $50 for a writing gig that should pay at least $150-$200? That’s frustrating itself.
As a content developer, you worth more and deserves some respect. Without content there’s no brand to market, so stand for what you deserve, and stop messing around with the process.
2) The competition on content Mill is stiff.
It’s a simple case of the “The law of supply.”
The higher the supply the lower the price and visa viz.

Content Mill is a general market where even half-baked writers come to market and hustle for their share of the pie.
They can accept as low as $3-$5 for a $100 content writing.
To make it simple and brief, there’s no price policy in these markets, anything goes.
3) As a newbie, you’ll need quality reviews to stand a chance to bid and win a gig.
That’s a hard stand you know, apparently why you’ll never get contacted after 100s of bids
That’s is out of the way now.
Why do you think every writer prefers foreign clients?
The money of course.

With foreign clients, you’ll get to bid in USD and I hope you know what that means? 💲 of course.
Assuming you land a $300 gig let’s do the math ($300 x 500) = N150k
We considered a dollar rate of N500/USD.
That’s how much you could make from a single foreign gig. Sometimes $500-$1000 depending on the writing assignment.
Now you see why foreign clients are Gold.
To the most important aspect of this piece;
Untapped tricks I’ve used repeatedly to win profitable foreign clients.
1) Go to the LinkedIn platform
2) Sign up if you never had an account (the process is pretty easy)
3) Create a profile, pay attention to the “about section” create a compelling piece about the service you offer and how you’ve been one of the best hands and a go-to for clients.
If you understand copywriting you shouldn’t have an issue with this page.
You should have the ability to take the client from where they are to a place they wish to be with a piece of content.
Every client emotionally wants to know how you’ll solve their pain points.
Your ability to play around shows you’re an A+ writer that must be kept close.
4) Upload your work sample
Possibly link content from your blog the clients could easily run through or a previously published work with another client.
These are your reviews every client must not fail to go through.
5) Start adding people to your network.
Preferably CEOs of B2B companies, use the LinkedIn search space to track them.
When they accept your connection exchange formalities and start up a conversation with them about your service.
Let them run through your profile and see what you are up to (of course this should be the first thing they’ll do before accepting your connection)
Rinse and repeat number 5 continuously. You’ll be working with foreign clients who will pay your rate in a short while.
Now stop reading and head over go LinkedIn now and sign up.
Good luck on your way to locating your first foreign PROFITABLE client.
It’s your turn now🚶♂️🚶♂️🚶♂️
