Beware of NIN SIM card linkage fraud
January 11, 2021
SIM card linkage – It has been observed that fraudsters are on top of their game to defraud unsuspecting victims under the guise of NIN SIM card linkage.
Following the recent directives by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), requiring customers to link their mobile phone numbers.
It becomes necessary to warn all and sundry to beware of fraudsters who may want to take advantage of the situation to steal valuable personal information.
There are calls and messages making round from unanimous people claiming to be from NIMC or any of the telecommunications service providers (MTN, GLO, Airtel and 9mobile).
These fraudsters go as far as telling you that NIN verification code has been sent to you and you should call out the code to them.
You are hereby advised to kindly ignore such messages as these sort of techniques can be used to carry out SIM swap and online payment related frauds with your identity.
To avoid falling victim, ensure you follow the official directions from your mobile phone service provider to link and verify your national identity.
In event where your service provider is unable to validate the NIN you submitted, they will instruct you to visit their offices for further verification.
Kindly be cyber smart and protect yourself against fraud.
