Nigerian banks SWIFT code (BIC) – According to a data published by the Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigeria in 2019 received $17.57billion in diaspora remittance, specifically between January and November of the same year.

Particularly, this remittance are funds transferred by migrants of the Nigerian decent to their home country Nigeria.

Proportionately, it can be seen that there’s a need for SWIFT/BIC code especially for remittances routed via the beneficiaries bank accounts, except for few paid out on Money transfer platforms like Western union, Money Gram, Ria, World Remit, SHIFT etc.

The bulk of the payment requires the country’s bank’s SWIFT or BIC code.

What is SWIFT/BIC code?

SWIFT codes are set of characters used to identify specific banks in international money transfer, this ensures that your money gets to the right place.

SWIFT code registrations are handled by “Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT).”

Note, the term SWIFT is always used interchangeably with “BIC” which in itself is called “Bank Identifier Code (BIC).”

When sending money to a beneficiary via the SWIFT/BIC, it’s very important you confirm the details with the beneficiary, who should depend in his/her bank, this is to avoid unnecessary delay or having your funds returned.
